RED OAK, Iowa – Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced Small Business of the Week: Jones County Welter Storage Equipment. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize small businesses in all of his 99 counties in Iowa.
“What began as an idea proposed at the Welter family's kitchen table has grown into a thriving company serving the Monticello community and customers across the country.” said ranking member Ernst. “Hard-won success based on values is at the heart of what makes Iowa's small businesses great, and I'm proud to credit the entire Welter Storage Equipment team and the Welter family for their accomplishments.”
Welter Storage Equipment was founded by Lloyd and Joyce Welter on their family farm during the farm crisis of the 1980s. After her two years of service in the U.S. Army, Lloyd recognized the need for shelving, pallets and his racking and storage equipment and launched a business in Monticello. Today, Welter Storage Equipment sells new and refurbished warehouse equipment and office furniture acquired through auctions, liquidations, bankruptcies, and closings. We also provide storage equipment and forklifts. The Welter Storage Equipment team operates in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Monticello. Lloyd and Joyce's sons Ron, Dave, Dean and Bob are the current owners and the Welter family has worked for the business for three of her generations. Welter Storage Equipment Company celebrates its 41st anniversary in 2023.
Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with this week's Small Business of the Year Award.
